No-dig pipe renewal

Sydney Sewer Relining

Relining rebuilds a broken sewer from the inside. A resin-saturated liner is drawn or inverted through the old pipe and cured hard against its walls, leaving a smooth structural pipe within the pipe, while the garden, the driveway and the slab above stay exactly where they are.

Drainage work in NSW, relining included, falls under the plumbing and drainage licensing scheme administered by NSW Fair Trading, and work on the house service line must observe Sydney Water's requirements at the point of connection. Verify the drainage licence of whoever performs the lining, and treat post-work CCTV footage as part of the deliverable, not an optional extra.

Coverage

Sydney's clay-pipe suburbs and beyond

The pipes beneath a suburb reflect the decade it was built. Each region below carries its own drainage inheritance, and its own case for lining.

Relining services

Renewal without excavation

01CCTV survey

CCTV drain surveys

A camera travels the line recording every crack, root mass and displaced joint against its measured position.

02CIPP lining

Full-length relining

A continuous structural liner cured through the whole run, renewing the pipe end to end.

03No-dig repair

Sectional patch repairs

A short liner cured over a single defect, when the rest of the pipe deserves to stay.

04Robotic cutting

Junction & branch reinstatement

Robotically re-opening branch connections sealed over by a new liner, finishing the no-dig job properly.

05Drain preparation

Preparation, jetting & root cutting

High-pressure water jetting and mechanical root removal, bringing the host pipe to lining condition.

Relining questions

What exactly is pipe relining?

A renewal method that builds a new pipe inside the old one. A flexible sleeve saturated with structural resin is positioned through the damaged line, expanded against the host pipe, and cured solid (by heated water, steam or ultraviolet light) into a smooth, jointless bore. The failed pipe becomes formwork; the cured-in-place pipe inside it carries the flow from then on.

When does lining beat digging up and replacing?

When the surface above matters (driveways, slabs, landscaping, shared boundaries) when the line runs deep or through rock, or when defects are spread along a run that still holds alignment. Excavation keeps the advantage where a section has collapsed outright, dropped badly out of grade, or where the pipe is so deformed a liner cannot seat against it.

How long does a cured liner actually last?

Liner systems used in Australia are commonly engineered and tested against a fifty-year design life, and the cured resin pipe resists the two things that destroyed the original: root entry at joints, because a liner has none, and corrosion of the pipe material itself. Actual service life depends on correct installation, which is what the post-cure footage exists to evidence.

Roots keep blocking my sewer. Will lining stop them?

Roots enter at joints, cracks and defective connections, openings a continuous liner seals shut. Preparation first cuts the existing root mass back to the wall, then the cured liner leaves no gap for regrowth to exploit along the lined length. Junctions and any unlined sections remain the entry points to watch, which is why the survey maps every one before work starts.

Doesn't a liner make the pipe smaller?

The wall of a cured liner takes only a few millimetres of diameter. Against that, the new bore is smooth and jointless where the old pipe was a chain of ridged, offset, root-fringed segments, so hydraulic performance typically improves rather than suffers. Flow capacity on a house sewer is rarely the constraint the old pipe's defects were.

What should the finished job hand over?

Three things: the pre-works survey footage showing what was wrong, the post-cure footage showing the finished bore and each reinstated junction, and the paperwork for the drainage work performed. Together they document what was renewed and give any future owner or plumber the true state of the line.

Wastewater surfacing at gullies, floor wastes or garden level is a health hazard: keep children and pets away, wear gloves for any contact with affected items, and ventilate rooms where sewage has entered. Repeated surcharging during heavy rain can indicate a problem in Sydney Water's network rather than your private line, worth reporting before paying for private works.

How it works

From blockage history to cured liner

  1. 01

    Describe the drain's history

How often it blocks, what clears it each time, any footage or reports from previous callouts, and roughly where the line runs, this history shapes the survey before a camera ever enters the pipe.

  2. 02

    Survey and mapping

The CCTV inspection records every defect against distance, sonde tracing plots the route and depth from the surface, and the footage is reviewed with you so the pipe's condition is a shared fact, not an assertion.

  3. 03

    Scoped renewal quote

The quote states what will be lined and what will not, patch versus full-length reasoning, how junctions will be reinstated, and what evidence arrives at completion: priced against the survey, not against guesswork.

  4. 04

    Lining, cure and proof

Preparation jetting and root cutting bring the host pipe to condition, the resin liner is installed and cured, junctions are robotically re-opened, and final footage demonstrates the finished bore end to end.
